How Ike Law (Law Office of Ike Onwukwe) collects, uses, and protects your personal information.

Last updated: July 9, 2026 · Applies to ikelaw.ca and all related consultation and contact forms.

1. Overview

Ike Law, operating as the Law Office of Ike Onwukwe ("the firm," "we," "us," or "our"), is a licensed Canadian immigration law practice based in St. Catharines, Ontario. We are committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who visits this website or contacts our office, in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the Law Society of Ontario's rules on confidentiality and record-keeping.

This policy explains what personal information we collect through ikelaw.ca, why we collect it, how it is used and protected, and the choices and rights available to you. It reflects the ten fair information principles set out in Schedule 1 of PIPEDA.

2. Accountability

The firm is responsible for personal information under its control. Ike Onwukwe, Principal, acts as the firm's privacy contact and is accountable for the firm's compliance with this policy and with applicable privacy legislation. Questions, access requests, and complaints may be directed to him using the contact details in Section 16.

In addition to statutory privacy obligations, information received from clients and prospective clients is treated in accordance with the confidentiality obligations imposed on lawyers by the Law Society of Ontario's Rules of Professional Conduct, which in many respects are stricter than general privacy legislation.

3. Information We Collect

We collect personal information only when you choose to provide it, primarily through our consultation booking form and contact details. This may include:

  • Identity and contact details: first name, last name, email address
  • Matter details: the general category of immigration matter you select (e.g., Express Entry, family sponsorship, work permit)
  • Scheduling information: your selected date and time for a consultation, submitted through our Calendly or Microsoft Outlook booking tools
  • Technical information: standard website analytics such as pages visited and general location (country/region), collected automatically by our analytics provider

We do not ask for sensitive documents (such as passports, immigration case numbers, or supporting evidence) through this website. Those are collected securely after a lawyer–client relationship is established, through separate, appropriate channels.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information we collect to:

  • Respond to your inquiry and schedule your free consultation
  • Communicate with you about your consultation, including confirmations and reminders
  • Understand general usage of our website so we can improve it
  • Meet our professional, legal, and regulatory obligations as a licensed law firm

We do not use your information for unrelated marketing purposes, and we never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

6. Third-Party Services We Use

To operate this website and provide our booking and communication tools, we rely on the following third-party service providers, each of which processes personal information under its own privacy policy:

  • Calendly — used to schedule consultation bookings and manage availability
  • Microsoft Outlook / Bookings — used as an alternative scheduling option and to manage calendar invitations
  • Google Analytics — used to understand aggregate, anonymized website traffic and usage patterns
  • Netlify — our website hosting provider

These providers may process data outside of Canada, including in the United States. Each maintains its own security and privacy standards, which we encourage you to review on their respective websites.

7. When We Share Information

Beyond the service providers listed in Section 6, we do not share your personal information with any third party except:

  • Where required by law, court order, or a regulatory body such as the Law Society of Ontario
  • Where necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of the firm, our clients, or others
  • With your explicit consent

8. How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain personal information collected through this website only as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected. If a lawyer–client relationship is established, client files and records are retained in accordance with the Law Society of Ontario's by-laws and record-keeping requirements and applicable limitation periods. Website inquiry details that do not result in a retained client are periodically deleted from our active systems. Information used to make a decision about an individual is retained long enough to allow the individual to access it.

9. Safeguards & Security

We protect personal information with safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity, including physical, organizational, and technological measures — such as encrypted (HTTPS) connections on this website, access limited to those who need the information, and secure storage of client records. Information received from prospective and retained clients is additionally protected by the professional duty of confidentiality under the Law Society of Ontario's Rules of Professional Conduct.

However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a breach of security safeguards creating a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and report to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by PIPEDA.

10. Your Rights & How to Challenge Our Compliance

Under PIPEDA, you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you
  • Request access to, or a copy of, that information
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Withdraw your consent to our continued collection or use of your information, subject to legal or contractual limitations
  • Ask us to delete personal information we no longer need to retain

To exercise any of these rights, contact our office using the details in Section 16. We will respond within the timelines required by applicable law, and there is no charge for making a reasonable access request. If we refuse a request in whole or in part, we will explain why, subject to any legal restrictions on disclosure.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca · 1-800-282-1376), which oversees compliance with PIPEDA.

11. Cookies & Analytics

This website uses standard analytics cookies to help us understand how visitors use the site (for example, which pages are viewed most often). This information is aggregated and does not identify you personally. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings at any time; doing so may affect certain website features but will not prevent you from contacting our office directly.

12. Electronic Communications (CASL)

In accordance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), we only send you commercial electronic messages where we have your consent or where an exemption applies. When you submit an inquiry or booking request, we will email you in direct response to that inquiry — such as consultation confirmations, scheduling messages, and follow-up about the matter you raised. We do not add website visitors to marketing mailing lists, and any promotional email we may send in the future will include a working unsubscribe mechanism.

13. Children's Privacy

This website is not directed at individuals under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from minors through this site. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

14. No Lawyer–Client Relationship Created

Submitting information through this website — including through our consultation booking or contact forms — does not create a lawyer–client relationship, and information you submit before such a relationship is formally established may not be treated as privileged or confidential in the same way as communications with a retained lawyer. A lawyer–client relationship is only formed once confirmed in writing by our office.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when this policy was most recently revised. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
